I moved to New York City in my early twenties and spent my formative years in Alphabet City.
I found myself traveling to Guatemala on a whim with an acquaintance I made in the neighborhood. My goal was to gain a better understanding of the unique agricultural production processes and what better way to learn than by working at a coffee farm and beneficio.
I tasted the coffee the way the farmers intended; Unadulterated — Sans pumpkin spice, mushroom extracts, or whipped cream.
I questioned my years of unknowingly using low-grade beans based on the quality of the label, brewing with expensive contraptions; pour-over devices that satisfied form more than function; and of course fast coffee (coffee pods)— I knew I could do better.
These reasons were enough for me to start Alphabet City Coffee — A boutique coffee company importing small-batch, custom blended coffee beans, and taking it directly to consumers — Just the beans.
Like Alphabet City, our coffee may not be for everyone, and that's alright; but rest assured that we’ll be here for those who know.
